We are moving right along, and Part Four has been posted! This month our flower is Violets… YUM!
Anyone have any pictures to share? We’d love to see them. I’m still working on Part One, slowly but surely. I’ve appliqued (machine) the leaves and stems. All I have left to do is the bluebells and then I’m on to Part Two.
Happy Quilting

and it is the day to put up Part Three! I’ll be doing that later today, so if you haven’t saved Part Two yet, this is the time to do it. Of course, it will go on sale at the Cotton Spice Quilt Shop, but why not get it free?

Appliquéd quilts are my favorite kind of quilt to make, share, see and cuddle up in! And I think 99% of them have had flowers in them. Who can resist bringing the garden outside into your home?
This past winter I was making a wedding quilt for my son and his bride. It was blowing, snowing and would chill you to the bone in minutes in our Michigan weather here. But in my sewing room it was summer with the appliquéd wreaths and butterfly blocks I was making! It cheered me up immensely and I usually love winter.
What kind of appliquéd quilts have you made?

Ok, here is my first attempt at this straight stitch applique. I need some practice, as my lines aren’t very straight, but so far, I’m liking it!

NOTE: As I was looking at this picture, I realized I didn’t like it as much as I liked the sunflower quilt I was using as an example. Sue’s stitching is exactly on the edge, not inside the edge like mine. You wouldn’t think that would make a big difference, but it does! Here’s a little sneak preview of her sunflower quilt stitching…

I’m beginning to applique today, and while my first intention was to machine applique, your regular buttonhole applique stitch, I recently saw some machine applique using the triple straight stitch along the outside edge. So, that’s what I’m doing today and hope to get a picture of at least part of it up by tomorrow. I love the look of this stitch, it’s different than the norm and I like that
Note - I have to add this is not my original idea. The idea came from Sue Haake of Chippewa Creek Quilts and you’ll see it in the Sept issue of Cotton Spice. Here too, as soon as I get a few of the flowers done and take the picture

Karen-I’ve been eagerly waiting to see your bluebell strip. It looks gorgeous! What appliqué method are you using for your quilt?
I hope more quilters who are making the quilt shares pictures of their strips. One of the best things about being involved in quilting groups is the show and tell of our projects. To be able to share our hard work with someone who understands and appreciates the skill we are developing is so precious. We were created with the desire and drive to win. Each quilt I make and complete helps me feel that I have just taken another step in my quilting journey. Each quilt is a victory and I do a little dance in my heart! I’m waiting to dance with you too!

They are cut out and placed, but not ironed on or sewn. Couldn’t wait to show it off though
